The Federal Aviation Administration is hopeful it's in the final stages of fixing a computer issue with a system that provides pilots with notices they need before flying that currently has many flights around the nation grounded.
Some airlines may be able to function without the feature called the NOTAM system and several flights had already taken off this morning according to the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport's flight board. CNN reports more than 1100 flights have been affected by this outage.
United Airlines released a statement saying that all flights were temporarily delayed and that it would issue further information once it was received from the FAA.
A statement on the FAA website reads: "Technicians are currently working to restore the system."
Widespread delays in flights have the potential to disrupt travel for business and personal travel alike. Same-day travelers to cruise ships come to mind when widespread outages like this arise.
